Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How do elections work?
A. Nominees must fill in an application form, where they require a proposer and seconder. After submitting the forms and the e-Voting application, they must wait for Nomination Review on 30 August 2024 for confirmation that they can run for the position.
After receiving confirmation, nominees would be required to attend rallies between 2 to 6 September 2024. The rally would consist of two sections: a rally speech and a Q&A section. After the rallies, campaigning would then proceed between 9 to 11 September 2024.
On Voting Day (13 September 2024), students will proceed to the voting website* to cast their votes. They are only allowed to vote for one candidate for each position. Should they wish to not vote for the particular candidate(s), they may abstain from voting in that position by checking the abstain button.
Results will be announced on 14 September 2024.
*Google Chrome is necessary for this action.
Q. How long is one term?
A. One term in Office is one academic year (i.e September 2024 to September 2025).
Q. What does “co-opted” mean?
A. Co-opted means that membership to the Club is granted by invitation from the existing committee.

Q. Which positions are co-opted?
A. The Special Projects Officer, Marketing Communication Secretaries, Performing Arts Director and Sports Secretary positions are exclusively co-opted.
For the role of Business Manager and Social Secretary, 1 is elected into Office and the other is co-opted.

Q. For positions that have 1 elected and 1 co-opted, who makes the decision?
A. Should one be elected into office, he or she may suggest who to co-opt to fill the other position. However, the newly elected Executive Committee (President, Vice President, Financial Controller, Honorary General Secretary) will make the final decision based on their discretion.

Q. Is campaigning and rallying compulsory for all positions?
While rallying is compulsory for all positions which includes the co-opted positions. Campaigning would not be compulsory for all positions. Campaigning is only compulsory for candidates running for elected positions. All campaigning efforts are subjected to the individual. However, campaigning is highly encouraged for all positions!

Q. What are some ways I can campaign?
A. Typically, nominees will release a campaign poster, followed by other publicity efforts such as giving out freebies or creating social media accounts for their campaign. Use your creative juices! For guidelines on campaigning, check campaign rules.
Q. How will I be elected into Office?
A. For uncontested seats, candidate is elected if “FOR” votes are more than “AGAINST” votes.
For contested seats, candidate is elected if they get higher “FOR” votes than the other candidates.

Q. What happens when no one is elected into Office for a particular position?
A. A by-election will be conducted from 16 to 20 September. Should a by-election not garner anyone filling a position, another by-election may be conducted. Should no one run for the position during by-election, successfully elected members of the 32nd CI Club Management Committee have full discretion to co-opt persons to fill the positions through an interview process or by other means they deem fit.

Q. What are the rules for by-election?
A. Nominees are allowed to run for the roles they ran in the first election.

New nominees who wish to contest must abide by the nomination procedure (i.e submitting their application forms) and must be present for the rally.

Former nominees who wish to contest for other positions are allowed to do so.

Nominees who run during by-elections will be subjected to the same rules as elections, where they must garner the proportionate number of votes to be elected into Office.

However, if nominees fail to garner enough votes again for the by-election, they cannot be co-opted into that position.
Go forth and conquer!
